Powering the growth of an international tech accelerator
The Creative Destruction Lab (CDL) connects science-based startups with business and management professionals, turning technical experts into thriving ventures. We started to work together in 2015 when CDL was a single location at the Rotman School of Management, and our partnership has continued as they have grown to 13 global locations.
CDL was working on a rough proof of concept community portal when the pandemic hit and changed it from a side project into their primary concern. We worked with them on a complete overhaul of the portal, redesigning it to better serve the wide range of staff, mentors and ventures now relying on it. We combined UX research and product strategy with design sprints to deliver a robust, flexible platform that now powers all aspects of the program around the world.
We started with research and workshops designed to surface important business goals and user needs. We prioritized features with CDL stakeholders and defined a focused product vision and roadmap.
Iterative development of a detailed design system provided CDL’s technical team with the tools needed for agile development of platform features.
Milestone outcomes
Firm standing as a key place for Canada’s next generation of tech and entrepreneurial talent
Supported growth from one office at the Rotman business school to 13 global locations
Transferred an international in-person start up program into an online community platform
The team at Pilot understood our goals, and challenged us in our work sessions, helping bring out the best solutions for our users. We felt like we were all working on the same team, that the Pilot team was invested in the project’s success.
