Sarah is an illustrator, designer, filmmaker, author and visual journalist who has worked for just about every outlet in Canada.
She founded local news blog, Torontoist.com, and launched the website for CBC’s The Hour with George Stromboulopoulos. For five years she served as an editorial cartoonist for The Ottawa Citizen and Vancouver Sun. As a digital journalist, she filed live sketch reports from all sorts of events for Maclean’s magazine, and charted monthly news events for the National Post and the popular website, I Love Charts. As a filmmaker, she’s made two shorts for the National Film Board. Her work has been screened at festivals all over the world and on CBC’s Rough Cuts and Canadian Reflections.
Sarah holds an MA in Media Studies from The New School (NYC), as well as undergrad degrees from both Concordia and Florida State, and just completed a year as a Massey Fellow at the University of Toronto. Her first book, A Bunch of Pretty Things I Did Not Buy (Penguin Press, 2014), is a visual essay about consumerism and living with less. Sarah has taught in the online journalism program at Humber College.
